This page will give you some tips for every boss contained inside of the Tartarus. Yup, this guide is complete, so hope it helps! Remember, these are not the full moon bosses. You'll need to view the walkthrough for tips on how to defeat those foes. If you cannot find what you are looking for, press ctrl + f to search this page.
FLOOR # 5 :: Three "Venus Eagle" Shadows
The very first set of bosses you will face off against in the Tartarus! First off, I recommend using your fusion spell with Orpheus and Apasras - Cadenza. By now you should have the latter persona and of course, you should still be using Orpheus, since you don't have a huge selection in the beginning. Using Cadenza will greatly help as it raises hit/evasion as well as heals 50% HP for all party members. Probably the best spell you have in the beginning of this game!
Venus Eagle shadows use "Garu" Skills. [The ones that are wind-elemental.] So, make sure to keep an eye on Junpei since he is weak to these types of skills. Luckily, you have Yukari in your party, so this will help you out quite a bit!
Venus Eagle absorb "Agi" so refrain from using these fire-elemental attacks on these shadows.
Yukari will... well, to be blunt, kick some ass in this battle. Her physical attack is a pierce attack, and these guys are weak to pierce! To make it even easier, equip a bow to your main characters and have him attack each monster once to knock them down. It will allow you to get an all-out attack which will cause far greater damage than you fighting them off one by one.
FLOOR # 10 :: Three "Dancing Hand" Shadows
As with the last battle, I recommend using Cadenza. It is the fusion skill with Orpheus and Asparas. They will use all kinds of elements, so watch out and be on the offensive - it can be critical to your party surviving. Make sure to heal lots with Dia, healing items, or even Cadenza. But, this also goesfor the monsters - they can use dia on themself and heal their own hp! Ouch!
They use Magaru, Tenafoo, and so forth. Magaru is a garu spell that hits your entire party. Junpei = vulnerable. Yukari = good to go! With Tenafoo, well, make sure to have a lot of Ma Patra Gems to heal this status, as characters are unable to use skills when they are panicked.
They do not seem to have any apparent weakness, so just pound on them until you defeat them, using the tips above!
FLOOR # 14 :: One "Rampage Drive" Shadow
This shadow uses the skill Assault Drive which inflicts pierce damage. This skill also does a pretty large amount of damage to your characters in this particular battle. They also use mazio, the zio spell that damages your entire party. Watch out! Yukari is weak to zio skills, so you may have to heal her quite a bit during the duration of this battle. A good way to counter this is by, yes, using the fusion spell "Cadenza" from Orpheus and Asparas. It helps a lot since it heals so much, and it may help Yukari dodge some spells.
Another annoying thing? It seems to block physical attacks. So, hit it with spells.
FLOOR # 25 :: Three "Crying Table" Shadows
Okay, here you go, and easy Tartarus battle! They are weak to Bufu. Ohh, yes! This makes things easy! Just use a Persona with Bufu, such as Jack Frost. [If you can get it, if not, use some other persona with Bufu] All you'll need to do is use Bufu on each of these shadows. This will knock them down[if successful] and you'll get an allout attack! YES! Just keep doing this until they are defeated. It is your best bet.
FLOOR # 36 :: One "Charge Relic" Shadow
Eww, this boss is kinda powerful. It uses "Magarula" which will hit all your party!! Well, to fix this, have Yukari in the battle, who is strong to Garu skills. It'll do very little damage on her. Also, use a persona that is strong to Garu skills if possible. [Alp in the FES Version is an example] This will make the battle soooooo much easier.
Use either gems you get from treasure boxes [bufu gems and so forth] or just attack physically. It would help if you have done "Elizabeth Requests" {NOTE: FES VERSION ONLY} for the Toy Bow and Spiked bat. If you have, put the Toy Bow on the main character and Spiked Bat on Junpei. This will make them tear up this shadow! Only problem is that Junpei is weak to Garu, so he might die easy. If he does, just leave him down. Having Yukari and your main character alive is enough this battle.
FLOOR # 47 :: Three "Golden Beetle" Shadows
This, honestly, is near impossible without using your all-out attacks. These guys will take very little damage from you. Don't bother using physical attacks as it will be a total waste of time. Unless, you know, you like accomplshing nothing. Then that's okay, too, I guess.
Use "Zio" on each shadow, knock all three down, do all-out attack, and repeat it until they are defeated. Quite a simple battle, really.
FLOOR # 59 :: One "Intrepid Knight" Shadow
This guy uses wind alot, so, as a general rule, Yukari is good in this battle and Junpei is bad, mmkay. You'll also want to use a persona strong to wind. By now, you should be level 20, and if that is the case, make sure to create "Narcissus" as he is strong to wind and a pretty powerful persona for this part of the game.
They do not really have a weakness, so put that thought aside. This will be a long battle, I warn you. Your party should be Hero, Yukari, Akihiko, Mitsuru. If not, well, just edit the tips below.
Have Yukari and Akihiko set to heal/support. Akihiko will use spells to make the shadow do less damage while Yukari will... heal the party. Have Mitsuru assigned to attack the target. She will use Bufu, which should do about 60 DMG - the best you'll get here, sadly. :/ Have your hero use spell gems [ if you are not stingy ] that you get from boxes or Elizabeth quests.
FLOOR # 72 :: Three HULK HOGANS "Furious Gigas" Shadows
Ahahaha, have you noticed? These guys are just like Hulk Hogan, complete with the little undies and handlebar mustache. Awesome, right? Naw, not really...
Anyway, Zio will do very little damage, but Garu will do alot!! Remember Narcissus from the last battle I suggested? You can use him here! Use Narcissus' Garu skills to knock them down, then do "all-out attack!" Yukari is also recommended, since you can set her to "Knock Down."
FLOOR # 85 :: One "Fanatic Tower" Shadow
There might be a lot to say about this guy. Maybe, maybe not. But, well, whatever... here I go...
Make sure to use a Persona that is resistant to Zio, like Oberon, who takes 0 DMG and blocks Zio. You'll also probably want to use Akihiko and avoid using Aigis and Yukari if possible. However... Aigis CAN be useful in this battle if she doesn't get knocked down. :/ She has "Kill Rush" which can do 2x 80 or so DMG to the boss. WOW. That is really good for this battle.
Use Mitsuru! By now she should have Diarama which heals quite a bit! You can also use Media with your main character if you use Oberon [recommended!!!] If it is needed, but usually, other characters will heal before you even need to, so it shouldn't really be a problem.
This guy has lots of resists and no real weakness. x.x; Ugh! You can use Garalua Gems on your main character if you have anything - this will cause more DMG than most anything else you have at the moment. It reflects strike and lots of magics back onto the caster, so watch out. Physical attacks do very little DMG, but it may possible be your only option, so this, without a doubt, will be a long, drawn-out battle.
It uses Poisma on the party, so make sure to have lots of Dis-Poison items on hand.
FLOOR # 98 :: Three HULK HOGANS "Magical Magus" Shadows
First off all - they absorb Bufu. Second, they use mind charge. Third - well, it doesn't really matter. Hit them all with maragi, knock them down, and do an all-out attack.
Their Bufu does a lot of DMG, so it is recommended to have agi skills on a persona that is not weak to Bufu. You can probably fuse something like that pretty easily.
They also use a skill that will reflect magic back onto the caster. At the point they use this, please be careful. As well as having the main character use agi, you can also have Koromaru in battle set to "Knock Down." It may just work well.
Black Frost with Maragi would be good.
Cheap Tactic - create black frost, he is null to bufu. Set party to rush. Go away a bit, come back later, and the battle will be over. You can bring Mitsuru into the battle to help. HERO - NO DMG, MITSURU - LITTLE DMG. It works.
FLOOR # 110 :: One Natural Dancer Shadow
Ah, the dancers. As a general rule, they use Sexy Dance to charm your party. A good way to counter this? If by some, freak chance, you create Narcissus with an item within, level him up until the item is released. The Narcissus flower you will recieve for doing so blocks charm! This makes the battle easy, as you can use a Persona that blocks Garu skills [Such as Ghoul - FES ONLY], rush, and kill this shadow easily.
You can do it the normal way, too, though. It'll just be more difficult.
As stated above, use a Persona that is AT LEAST Strong to Garu. Narcissus, Ghoul - they both work and are both around level 20. Ghoul is better for this battle, yes, but if you do not have FES, stick with Narcissus.
A skill is used in this battle that will block physical attacks, so beware. Make sure to heal when needed, as always.
Charm is BAD. Make sure to have plenty of Dis-Charm. This battle will be a lot of luck since you can get charmed easily.
FLOOR # 122 :: Three "Arcane Turret" Shadows
First off, these guys block Zio attacks, so needless to say, don't bother using them in this battle. This means Akihiko will do great in this battle - well, dmg taking wise. You may want Mitsuru in your party, as these guys are weak to Bufu. If you use her, make sure to set her to "Knock Down." You may also wish to use a Persona with good Bufu skills during this battle on your main character. I recommend "King Frost." Overall, it'll be pretty easy to win this battle and get allout attacks!
FLOOR # 135 :: One Sleeping Table Shadow
This battle = FRIGGIN HARD. Unless, of course, you are very high level for some reason.
It uses Hamaon, a light instant death skill, so be sure to have revival beads and such. Also, have homunculous thingers in your inventory. IF you have none, roam around lower floors and find rare, golden chests and find some of them. They will be your best friend in this battle.
Another problem: They do Evil touch. Ahh. While this might not sound too painful, it is. On it's next turn after using this skill, if your Evil Touch is not cured, it will you Ghastly Whail, which will instantly kill anyone who was inflicted successfully with the evil touch skill. x.x so, watch out, and make sure you heal it!!
Thought the first two were enough? Hohoho, it does not end there. Your worst enemy in this battle will be neither of the two things listed above. Your biggest obsticale will come in the form of a devestating almighty damage skill by the name of Megadolan. This spell will cause a good deal of damage so you'll need to be ready to heal!
As for elemental spells, they use Maragidyne. You can reduce your damage by using Koromaru and having your main character equipped with a Persona either strong or immune to agi based damage spells, such as Flauros or Eligor.
This battle is a lot of luck. How I did it? I just got Eligor [I had its social link maxed!] And used stat boost items on it [cup of knight, cup of king, etc] and got its Strength and Edurance pretty high. [Around 60 or so] So, I took only main char and Mitsuru into battle. Yes, Mitsuru dies EASY, but she does gooood dmg with Bufula. x.x Have main char attack/heal himself when needed/revive Mitsuru when possible.
FLOOR # 160 :: One Mythical Gigas Shadow
Hehehe, another Hulk Hogan lookalike. They block pierce attacks and use the skill by the name of "Deathbound." It's not really all that scary, though, unless it gets criticals on multiple party members. He will use "Power Charge" sometimes, so if that happens - you may wish to use an attack mirror, because Deathbound is sure to follow.
Suggestion: Try to use equips that give +critical or something like that. I knocked it down and got all-out attacks really EASY in this battle. You can also use revolution if you'd like, but it is a bit risky. [Revolution is a spell that gives EVERYONE, including enemies, upped crit rate]
FLOOR # 171 :: Three "Judgement Sword" Shadows
They use pretty powerful zio-based skills, so the solution to this is to use a persona who is immune [or, at the very least, strong] to zio based spells. An example: Thor, the ultimate Chariot Persona [level 53] It is also recommeneded that you use Akihiko, because by now, he should be blocking zio spells completely. On the other hand, Aigis and Yukari? BAD IDEA. Don't use them, unless, you know, you wantthem to be knocked down a lot. You can probably figure out what to do from here. Attacks, spells, and so forth.
FLOOR # 180 :: Three "Stasis Giant" Shadows
Ah... this battle CAN be a pushover...
Koro-chan and Aigis are good for this battle. If they are high enough level, they will have the Heatwave skill, which these guys are weak to. YESYESYES. So, prepare for a lot of all-out attacks.
Sorry, but I don't have much more input for this battle, simply because I beat it in one turn. I used Thor and used the special "Thunder Call" fusion spell, which, needless to say, did lots of DMG. [With a weapon that also has Thor fused into it]
Can't use Thor? I recommend a Persona with heatwave!! It'll make the battle easy.
FLOOR # 190 :: One Phantom King Shadow
This shadow uses evil touch and evil smile but doesn't seem to do much else. :/ Just have plenty of items to cure it. REALLY EASY BATTLE! You'll blast through this thing.
FLOOR # 201 :: Three "Royal Dancer" Shadows
Of course, these shadows use "Sexy Dance" which can charm. This can be bad, so be prepared. Have plenty of items to cure charm, because as you should know by now, Charm is VERY Bad. Not only do they Charm, but they also can panic your party and use poison skills. Argh. Keep that in mind.
They use the semi-powerful heatwave skill, but it shouldn't be too bad at this point in the game. Just remember that Mitsuru is weak to it.
Just use your attacks and kill, kill, kill. Well, these are annoying monsters, so it may take awhile.
FLOOR # 211 :: One "Reckoning Dice" Shadow
These guys Block just about every magic skills [ garu, bufu, zio ] so what you'll want to do is use your strongest physical attack skills! You'll want to use a Persona with a high strength stat and a good physical attack skill such as vicious strike, or something better, if you have it!
They will use Tetrakarn, which makes it reflect one physical attack. Since you'll be using skills, this may become difficult. So, you'll want someone who has a turn after the main character to just be set to full assault and to attack, physically, once. I recommend using Aigis for this since she does very well up against physical attacks. This will allow you to continue to use skills without the danger on your main character getting hit.
When it gets weak, it will start using a more powerful version of megidolan, so make sure to be ready to heal if needed.
FLOOR # 220 :: Three "Noble Seeker" Shadows
so, as far as what they do: They use garudyne, vorpal blade, agidyne, and ziodyne. They do use garudyne and vorpal blade most often, though, it seems, but really, using a persona for resistance in this battle really will not take you anywhere since they DO use basically every element.
What I did: Set a character to heal/support, preferibly either Mitsuru or Yukari. If you do not use either of them, Ken or Akihiko will also work. You'll want to use your strongest skills. For example, I used Thunder Call, Thor's fusion skill. However, you should know by now what skills your personas have that are the strongest, so make sure to do what you have to do in this battle!
FLOOR # 228 :: Three "Carnal Snake" Shadows
Like lots of Tartarus bosses previously, these guys use Tetrakarn, which will, as you should know by now, block one physical attack. Watch out! They use the maragidyne spell to hit all allies, so Mitsuru will be left vulnerable if you happen to use her. Basically, use physical attacks, and if you want to use magic, use BUFU, as it is the magical type spell that will do the most type of DMG, anything else will just be a giant pile of PHAIL.
FLOOR # 236 :: One "World Balance" Shadow
This boss uses Maziodyne, so you should know what to do from here - use a Persona strong to Zio and try to use Akihiko in this battle. This boss also uses megidola, which can cause massive damage. Make sure to have a character or two set to heal/support as this will greatly help in this battle.
This shadow can instantly kill the entire party, so make sure to have plenty of homunculus on hand as well as revival beads/balm of life.
use your best spells. Hopefully the ones that end in -dyne as they generally inflict the most damage.
Also, as a note: This Shadow will also use magurudyne and maragidyne from time to time. Like most battles at this point, not a whole lot of help can be given. If you find yourself stuck at this boss, make sure to level up some, because levels in this game greatly help.
FLOOR # 244 :: Three "Fierce Cyclops" Shadows
These guys use a few powerful skills. The first one is Primal Force. However, it is a pierce attack, and Aigis blocks it. Hopefully this is some good information to know. They also use Vorpal Blade. It is a very powerful attack, so watch out, and heal after they use it, if possible/needed.
Bufula does decent DMG to them, so yes, Mitsuru can be useful in this battle. Garula can be okay, too.
Use your strongest spells, as always. This can be a difficult battle and it may take you a few tries to beat them. Also, as I posted in the last battle tips, level up!! Well, level up if you cannot beat the battle. A few levels can make all the difference.
I recommend using Aigis, since she blocks one of their attacks.
If you do not finish the guys off before they get critical, they will use the "Last Resort" skill, which is very dangerous if you attack all three of the guys with the same spell, because if they all use it in the same turn...well, it would be bad. This is unlikely, though. So, make sure to finish one off if it gets critical.
FLOOR # 252 :: One "Jouten of Grief" Shadow
Yaaaar, the last of the "Tartarus Bosses." The rest of the enemies you fight in here are part of the name plot, so they'll be in the walkthrough. You can't fight them until the last day of January, though.
It will be pretty tough, of course, since it is the last of the Tartarus Shadow bosses. It absorbs zio, bufu - wait, hold it, actually, it is immune to just about everything. Crap! Well, you can use "break" skills if you please so that you'll be able to damage it with your regular spell type skills.
If you don't want to do this, well, use "almighty" skills. Some personas have almighty skills, such as Loki. Your hero will be the biggest DMG dealer, though, if you take this route, so you can set others to heal/support. This way will make the battle pretty long, though.
Like I mentioned on some previous Tartarus Bosses, level up if you can't beat this battle! It can help, drastically. For example, I beat this battle at level 75+.
